This is kinda awkward for me:

My friend has started pushing little hints at me that she likes me. It's starting to get really really obvious now. For example, she asked me if I was going to watch the fireworks, and I said no I'm going to a family friend's house. She said, "Aww I wanted to watch them with my boyfriend or husband or just someone really special *awkward tone* but you're not going, so never mind".

In this situation, I'm worried that if something happens between us if we're more than friends, our friendship won't really be there anymore. If I hurt her emotionally because I think I might have made a mistake, my social life will be gone, her social life will be gone, and we'll both isolate ourselves away from each other. I don't want that to happen.

Maybe I'm just confused, but eh...

Well, first off, she's a girl.
Which means nothing she's going to do, say, or react will be logical.
So prepare yourself for that.

Secondly, be straight up with her - tell her that you don't want to mess up the friendship, and that you'd prefer to stay single.
But start out by asking her if she likes you, just to make sure.
Sometimes girls can be persistant though, especially if she's already a friend, knows how you are, and still likes you.
It's going to be awkward for a little bit - fer sure.
Just try to be cool about it - stay chill, man.

Wow, i know exactly how you feel. Same thing happened to me 4 yrs ago, well, we were friends and then she started liking me. I never did anything then because i knew it'd never work out. Soon, we just drifted apart and it was awkward.

I can feel you aswell. Like others said - girls go about things much differently than us guys. That being said, if you do evolve into more than friends and something happens, your friendship will likely be gone.

Take it slow and ask yourself if you actually look at her as more than a friend. If you truly do, then go ahead and pursue it.

If you do like/are attracted to her, really, you kinda have an advantage to ask her out; if not you have a good 65-75% (depends) chance of ruining your friendship. Really, you just have to do things that you do to NORMAL friends and don't get too much of the 1-on-1 cause that is her chance. You can hang out with her but just be careful not to get too much space from the public. There's very little you can do if you aren't attracted to her...

I wouldn't read too much into it just yet. I mean, unless she REALLY REALLY starts digging into you.....then I would ask her and if you aren't interested in her that way, then you just have to tell her. If you want to keep the friendship you have to go about it softly though or you run the risk of losing her as a friend. Which might not be a bad thing really because just because you turn her down doesn't mean her crush on you goes away either.

You've gotta think, are you interested? dont think about the friendship for a second, just think about if you want this. Because if you want her then just see where it goes, because if your friendship is strong, even if you guys break up, you can still be friends.
But if you still arent sure if you're interested in being more than friends then just take things as they come. Let them happen on their own. :]

like idk cause me and this girl were like best friends the our friend ship got bigger and bigger till we started dateing and then after that me and her were like best friends and you jus never know what will happen and life is all about takeing chances and also you can't be old and wise if your not young and wild lol jus hope i helped

First of all, ask yourself: Are you attracted/love her?
There's nothing you can do, but tell her how you truly feel if you really aren't attracted to her and that's the best thing you can do.
I had a really good friend, best friend actually that was a girl and we started dating and after that...we just drifted because of an accusation and breakdowns.
If you really are attracted to her, then go for it. You can't make yourself not attracted to her until you find a better friend. If you aren't, just be straight up with her.
Don't lie and tell her you're confused. Since you are, you probably don't know if you like her or not back.
I suggest you just wait and make up your heart's decision. :/ just tell her and ask her; does she really like you?

This is the first time I've ever seen this situation where the girl was in the friendzone.

I personally think that if you are really close friends, you should try seeing each other romantically, at least once, My current girlfriend was my best friend for years, I liked her "that way" the whole time, but she was in a relationship, and so was i so we were just friends, then I was single, and then she was single, and we were still "friends" for a bit. What we decided was, that we were still friends, but we really wanted to try dating each other, and we made an agreement that we would be mature about it, and if either one of us didnt think we made a good couple, wed call it off and go back to just friends again. if you get along as friends, I doubt youd change a whole lot if you became boyfriend and girlfriend, it just allows you guys to become closer.
