Melatonin is GREAT to help you sleep. It is an all natural herbal sleep aid you can pick up for cheap at any drugstore...take it every day about an hour or so before you need to sleep. St. John's Wort is also good to take daily if you are having trouble sleeping, it helps you destress.

I think focal exercises are good too. Not to sound too new-agey, but meditation forces your body and mind to relax and slow everything down.

You might also try experimenting with what helps you to relax personally...we are all different. Some people need complete darkness, some need a little light, some need background noise, it keeps others awake, etc. Try different things (like leaving on a ceiling fan or not) for a few days at a time to find out what helps you be able to not only fall-but stay-asleep. Those little things might not sound important, but they can make all the difference.

I recently decided to black out the windows in my room with strips of metallic tape. I had never given any thought to the tiny little streams of light from the moon/streetlights etc that leak in through the cracks in my blinds before, and I'm 30 friggin years old. Once I did though, I realized I had never had more restful sleep in my life. Didn't even realize that it bothered me until I changed it.
