I have had some problems with imsomnia lately

I have been up for whole nights and it is really starting to get on my nerves.


I need some good techniques and advice to help me sleep easier.
But I dont want to take pills and all that

Spend the last hours before the time you want to go to sleep winding down. Don't watch TV or be online, take a bath, or read a book.
Depending on how girly you want to be, chammomile tea is amazing to help relax, and lavendar scented things will help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

I know this cause I'm a chronic insomniac, I have to take meds to sleep ;-;

If you can stomach it, warm milk can help you feel sleepy, or I found that listening to audio tapes helped me fall asleep, cause I couldn't stand the silence.

I can relate too what you say as a fellow insomniac

I will try to stop all the hectic stuff before sleep
and I have tried hot chocolate before going to bed and that sometimes helps.
I can not stand silence either, I used to listen to tapes but now I have the TV on which is a bad thing because I keep looking at it

Yeah, the TV distracts you and it keeps you awake, that's why I use audio books and stuff. Bill Bryson is great to listen to, great books and he has a very soothing voice, I'm normally asleep in like 15 minutes.

Apparently, having too many electronic devices in your room can intefere with sleep. Makes sense seeing as I have a computer, radio, stereo, TV, fan, phone and god knows what else...
Make sure you switch them all right off.

Good luck, I know how damn frustrating not being able to sleep is.

If it helps though, take Tylenol PM, they're non-addictive and can help when there's just no sleep happening. I prefer not to medicate but I really have to if I want to sleep before like, 5am.

When watching T.V. the brain is 50% less active than when you are sleeping.

Watching T.V. helps me fall asleep, cause it keeps my mind from wandering, and becoming distracted, making me unable to sleep.

I have insomnia as well, and whenever I try to go to sleep it often takes me at least 2 hours to get to sleep.

Ooh, you're like the opposite of me. I can't watch TV cause my mind wanders, unless it's something I really want to watch and then it keeps me awake anyway xD

I find breathing exercises helpful, massage and yoga too, but not everyone is into that. Swimming is a good exercise to spend energy and relax, if you have a pool near you.

I would say read a book, getting into a good story makes me tired after a while. Also, I start to think of things that I have to do, that normally puts me out. I know how much insomnia sucks, I was diagnosed with it about 3 years ago. =/
