When I was treated for my eating disorder,
It took me a while to get used to eating again.
Your friend will feel ill for a long while because their digestive system isn't used to handling things of substance.

Try to tell your to eat lightly and gradually increase her meal intake every two or three days.
If your friend drank water to keep her full while she was practicing poor habits, tell your friend to keep water with them for every bite to eat.

I wouldn't recommend any sort of rehabilitation program for her, honestly.
They fuck you up more. D:

I wouldn't recommend certain therapies for it either. My cousin was anorexic and the therapies made her worse and then they put her in a support group and there was someone else in her group from the school and everyone found out about it.

tell you friend to watch what they eat for a while since fatty or greasy foods can make her really sick since her body hasn't been fully digesting anything for a while. breads and potatoes (starchy things) are a good thing to start with.

It depends on how they cope. I mean. When I physically stopped vomiting, I was 20. But I didn't stop the gorging/not eating for days. It has taken me years to come together after bulimia. I shot my metabolism to pieces. And it's taken years of practise to get normal eating right. lol. It is going to depend on how emotional involved they are. I mean, if it's been happening for a while then the recovery is going to be longer.
Small steps. It is a very hard habit to break. Best of luck to them.

My friend suffers from bulimia... I found out 3 years ago after he stayed at mine, i caught him throwing up after we had a meal, sat him down and tried to talk sense into him... to no avail.

People who suffer from bulimia/anorexia don't think like those who don't... there mind tells they need to slim, or they are too fat. His parents found out and they made him see a counselor to get to the bottom of why he had such low self esteem, but that didn't work either.

I'm starting to get worried about him now too, as he's stopped purging and started starving himself after eating lots.

The only thing I can think of that's logical, as a friend, is to not give up them, try to make them see that they are beautiful, and that you can still eat what you want without purging afterwards to keep your figure.

I hope he's OK x

To us, yes... but not to a bulimic.

I don't think this way myself, but I'm guessing the reasoning behind it is so you don't take any calories from the food you've just eaten?

As people have said, it depends on how well your friend can handle it. My friend was bulimiac when she was 13, and now after 4 years although she is eating right, she is still not fully recovered.

For the first couple weeks to almost two months my friend's digestive system was messed up and she really couldn't get to eat right

So all I can recommend is that eat small intakes and see how you friend reacts. If everything seems fine, eat a little bit more until you notice that you can't take it anymore. Start there and go slowly until you believe that you are on the right level!
